God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go either wrong or right.
Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong; but I can't.
If a thing is free to be good it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.
Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible,
is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.
- C.S. Lewis
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else

...you cannot go on 'explaining away' forever: you will find that you have explained explanation itself away.
You cannot go on 'seeing through' things forever. The whole point of seeing through something is to see something through it.
It is good that the window should be transparent, because the street or garden beyond it is opaque.
How if you saw through the garden too? It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles.
If you see through everything then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world.
To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.
- C.S. Lewis
We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be.
And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer.
If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road;
and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.
